Capture the PassionTogether We Can Shutout MS

My name is Mark Stewart, I’m a happily married father of three boys all of who are sports nuts.

Approximately seven years ago I was diagnosed with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis.  We were all devastated by this news.  I battled depression, pain, anger, and all the negative effects of hearing devastating news.

I hear of a hockey player who was still playing hockey while dealing with MS himself.  I had to find out who he was.  I found out that his name was Jordan Sigalet and he was a goalie with Bowling Green University.  Funny because I was a goalie myself.  I contacted the training staff and asked about what Jordan does to keep playing, his diet, etc.  Well I was amazed that I got a reply from Jordan himself.  Since then we have become friends.  In October 2007 my family and I went on a road trip to see him play with the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins AHL Team).  I ordered the best seats so we could see him.  I got the chance to meet him and talk during the game.  I was amazed at just how nice he was.  He gave me a jersey and he signed it (Together we can shutout MS).  I was amazed.  We got to meet the team after the game and I was so thankful for the chance to meet Jordan.  On our road trip home I thought what can I do to help MS?

Well by the time we reached the Canadian border I had a name for what I deemed an event to help MS (We Shoot…We Score…A Cure For MS…Ball and Ice Hockey Event).  With that I started to plan the event and had the honor to meet some amazing people and players who all agreed to sign a jersey we had done that on the back said “Shutout MS”.

The likes of Bobby Hull, Jean Believeau. Johnny Bower, and many more signed the jersey for an auction.  We raised over $13, 000 in our first year’s tournament and have now started our own organization to be able to help others.  The saying where one door closes another opens is so true.  Jordan has become an inspiration to me and Johnny Bower has become a very good friend.

I have made it my life’s goal to give back to those who struggle with illness, disease, or families in need.  I have collected some items which we use for auctions, selling, and prizes in making a difference.   I even donate some items to other events who try to make a difference.

Our website is http://www.weshootwescore.com/.  We are always trying to help others (helping others is our “goal”).  We encourage people to visit our site, get involved, and let us know what we can do to help someone else.

I have had the honor and privilege to meet and work with some of the greatest names in our game and acquire some amazing items.  I would love to be able to continue for many years to come, collecting and make a difference in the lives of others so many have done for me.

It all starts with a dream.  I get to look at my collection everyday and say, “I remember that day”.  I’m now in a wheelchair, but still continue my fight.
