Upper Deck adds figure skaters to Series 2 hockey, but do collectors really want them?
I am really excited about the Olympics and cant wait for the games to start. It's not like the games snuck up on them and with the release date in February it would have been perfect. Why not throw in some limited edition autos as well from some of the big superstars like Crosby, Ovechkin, Lidstrom, Wickenheiser, etc? Seems like it would have been a no brainer to me.
I think this would have increased the value of the Series 2 set tremendously as well. Most of the top rookies like Tavares, Duchene, JVR, and Hedman were already featured in Series 1, so the draw for Series 2 is not as high. By adding in an Olympic set with some limited autos or patch/jersey cards, Upper Deck would have had back to back hits on their hands.
Upper Deck is great with using social media like Twitter and Facebook, so why would they not ask the fans what they are looking for? I personally have no desire to collect figure skaters and this does nothing to entice me to buy the upcoming product.
What do you guys think? Hit or miss?
