Wildcard Winner: Sarah Oberg

My name is Sarah Oberg and I live in Prince Albert, SK. I have been a huge PA Raider fan since I was a kid. When I was 12 I was in the kids club and we did all sorts of things with the players. The only thing I remember is at one of our outings at a "Ruckers" I challenged Raider captain and my favorite player, Kyle Chipchura to a game of air hockey. We played and I think it's funny but he beat me 7-4. After our game I asked him to sign my card and he did. I remember it like it was yesterday and he is still one of my favorite players today.
Week 7 Winner: Mark Stepanuik

Being born and raised in Winnipeg you just have to be a Jets fan!!! So one day McDonalds and the Jets had a promption. The Jets were bringing in thier rookies(you may have heard of them) Teemu Selanne, Alexi Zhamnov and Igor Ulanov to the rink to sign autographs and if you bought a Big Mac you could buy a Russian hockey stick for $5. Obviously I bought a Big Mac and I brought along a buddy of mine and I told him here is my Teemu card you wait in line and I'll be back ASAP. So I hurried along leaving my friend in the big Teemu line and I proceded in getting Alexi and Igor to sign both thier rookie cards and my hockey stick. I hurried back to find my friend 2 people back from the front of the line. I joined him in line and Temmu said that we were the last ones so he signed my stick and card!!!!!

My card is a Darren Helm Ultimate Rookie Auto Shield 1/1. Cost to me was about 120.00, and well worth it. I was killing some time over lunch before heading back to work, and since it was late summer, early fall, there was nothing new out yet. I was at the card shop and seemed to remember a guy last time I was there buying a pack of ultimate and getting a beautiful Carey Price jersey from a pack, and thought, I have to try some of that. So, this time, I bought a pack, didn't open it and headed back to work. I set the box on my desk and waited till the end of the day to open it. Sat down at my desk, opened it up and wow! I was floored. A 1/1, and a beautiful card! Still my best pull to this day. I am definitely buying the 09/10 ultimate when it is released.

Week 5 Winner: Mark Stepanuik
My favorite memorabilia is an autograph blocker and glove from the World's greatest goaltender EVER!!!Vladislav Tretiak.
When I was 15 years old( long long long time ago) My dad took me to an auction where there were a lot of jerseys up for grabs. Sadly all I had was a 100 dollars and the jerseys were going far above that. I was heartbroken but then they announced the next auction item and it was a blocker and glove signed by Tretiak. Once the opening bid was announced I raised my number proudly and with great zest. To my horror the person bidding against me was the person who had been buying all the jerseys. Went back and fourth and then we reached my 100 dollar limit. I was hoping it was enough but it wasn't as Mr.Jersey guy outbid me. I guess my dad seeing how sad I felt leaned to me and said you really want it? I replied" Yes" and with backing from my dad I won the auction!!! I was soo happy and delighted and I even knew who Tretiak was.
Week 4 Winner: William Li
Date was Nov 12, 1991. LA Kings at Vancouver Canucks. I was working as an athletic trainer at UBC at the time, and knew Larry Ashley (trainer for Canucks). I found out when the Kings were going on the ice for their morning skate, and decided to visit the Pacific Coliseum. I told the security guard I was there to see Mr. Ashley, and he let me in. I ended up standing in the tunnel and talking to the Kings trainer. When Gretzky was coming off the ice, I was able to have him sign this card before the media got to him. I also asked him about his father, who was sick at the time, and he gave me a big smile and said he was fine. I fought my way out through the media and left before the guard knew I did not see Mr. Ashley. My best experience yet....exciting and pretty much illegal I think..try pulling this off nowadays!
Thanks
William
Week 3 Winner: Mark Stewart
My name is Mark Stewart, I’m a happily married father of three boys all of who are sports nuts.
Approximately seven years ago I was diagnosed with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. We were all devastated by this news. I battled depression, pain, anger, and all the negative effects of hearing devastating news.
I hear of a hockey player who was still playing hockey while dealing with MS himself. I had to find out who he was. I found out that his name was Jordan Sigalet and he was a goalie with Bowling Green University. Funny because I was a goalie myself. I contacted the training staff and asked about what Jordan does to keep playing, his diet, etc. Well I was amazed that I got a reply from Jordan himself. Since then we have become friends. In October 2007 my family and I went on a road trip to see him play with the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins AHL Team). I ordered the best seats so we could see him. I got the chance to meet him and talk during the game. I was amazed at just how nice he was. He gave me a jersey and he signed it (Together we can shutout MS). I was amazed. We got to meet the team after the game and I was so thankful for the chance to meet Jordan. On our road trip home I thought what can I do to help MS?
Well by the time we reached the Canadian border I had a name for what I deemed an event to help MS (We Shoot…We Score…A Cure For MS…Ball and Ice Hockey Event). With that I started to plan the event and had the honor to meet some amazing people and players who all agreed to sign a jersey we had done that on the back said “Shutout MS”.
The likes of Bobby Hull, Jean Believeau, Johnny Bower, and many more signed the jersey for an auction. We raised over $13, 000 in our first year’s tournament and have now started our own organization to be able to help others. The saying where one door closes another opens is so true. Jordan has become an inspiration to me and Johnny Bower has become a very good friend.
I have made it my life’s goal to give back to those who struggle with illness, disease, or families in need. I have collected some items which we use for auctions, selling, and prizes in making a difference. I even donate some items to other events who try to make a difference.
Our website is http://www.weshootwescore.com/. We are always trying to help others (helping others is our “goal”). We encourage people to visit our site, get involved, and let us know what we can do to help someone else.
I have had the honor and privilege to meet and work with some of the greatest names in our game and acquire some amazing items. I would love to be able to continue for many years to come, collecting and make a difference in the lives of others so many have done for me.
It all starts with a dream. I get to look at my collection everyday and say, “I remember that day”. I’m now in a wheelchair, but still continue my fight.

Week 2 Winner: Brian Forsberg
I just watched your UD box opening and had to open one myself. So I ran down to the local sportscard store and bought 2 09-10 boxes. To my thrill and amazement I got the card I was hoing for...Tavares rookie! I had bought almost 10 boxes back when Crosby was what I was looking for back in 05-06 and never got a single one. So today was a great day and just wanted you to know how it happened, after watching you guys open your box.
Go Coyotes! Brian Forsberg
Week 1 Winner: Joe Pelletier
When I was 5 years old, my father took me to the local landfill to drop off some tree branches and grass clippings. While he unloaded the debris, I was awestruck with this small piece of cardboard I found in the dirt.
It was a Barry Gibbs hockey card. O-Pee-Chee card number 304 of the 1979-80 hockey card set, pictured to the right.
Before that I don't recall having any hockey memories. But from that moment on I was enthralled by the game, and the players who made it great. I picked up the card and read the teasing of information about him on the back. I had to know more.
Realizing that this was card #304, I concluded there must have been at least 303 other cards out there. I was somehow able to gather a bunch of them, though not all. I got sick on the bubble gum trying too! But I was hooked on hockey - and learning about the players that captured my imagination on these small pieces of cardboard.
Ever since, I've been trying to learn as much as I can about hockey players, most of whom I've never seen play. I've read books and listened to interviews and tv shows. I digested anything I could. And it all started with that trip to the dump!.
GreatestHockeyLegends.com is my way of sharing what I learn with the world. It is not just a hobby, but a passion - a labor of love.
By the way, Gibbs was a hard hitting, unheralded defenseman who played 800 games with Boston, Minnesota, Atlanta, St. Louis and Los Angeles, mostly in the 1970s.
